There is another on the nearby end of the National Mall under the name Lincoln Refreshments which is right next to the bus drop-off/pick-up near the Lincoln Memorial and a short distance from the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Another is named Tidal Basin Refreshments. One operates under the name Jefferson Memorial Refreshments. By their names, one can tell where they are. They are operated by Guest Services, Inc., a company that operates food concessions in many national and state parks. There are food concessions in West Potomac Park. Additional parking lots and on street parking can be found in East Potomac Park along Ohio Drive, SW between Buckeye Drive and Hains Point. Limited, free day long parking is available along Ohio Drive, SW which is along the Potomac River south of the Lincoln Memorial or in Lots A, B, and C south of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. We used Old Town Trolley and were very pleased with the service and frequency of trolleys.įor those going to East Potomac Park to Hains Point and/or to use the recreational facilities, such as East Potomac Park Golf Course, a miniature golf course, the East Potomac Park Aquatic Center, and tennis courts, the parking situation is better. The best way to get there is by a hop-on, hop-off bus/trolley that lets you off and later picks you up at one of the four memorials on the shores. Taxis don’t make it a point to hang out around the basin waiting for a fare. Parking can be a challenge for the areas where the memorials are. Since West Potomac Park is along the river, it’s away from the mainstream attractions. If you intend to take the 2.1-mile walk around the Tidal Basin, I strongly recommend that you wear comfortable walking shoes, wear sunscreen, and bring bottled water. Undoubtedly there will be street closures and parking restrictions during that time in the area to further complicate things. One other thing to consider on 4/5 is the ten-mile run scheduled for the morning. You just have to resign yourself to walking a good deal longer than you'd probably like, or spending a fair amount of time to find a closer one that's vacant or being vacated. In the end, you can always find a space on the street on a weekend during CB time, and a free one, at that. But there will be circulation if you are patient. In these areas, you'll be competing for spaces with those who've decided to visit the memorials museums instead of the blossoms. Once the closest spaces near the Tidal Basin are taken, street parking will fill up around the government buildings throughout Southwest DC heading east towards the Capitol and south away from the Mall, and on the north side of the mall along Constitution Avenue and the numbered streets.
